The contemporary body no longer belongs to itself. It is a site of modification, a product, a field of visual ideology. This body undergoes a process of loss of subjectivity: it becomes something to be directed, reshaped, packaged, emptied, and reconstructed to meet external expectations, whether they come from fashion, gender norms, patriarchy, the aesthetics of Instagram, or exhausting work rhythms. This editorial investigates how clothing, gaze, camera, lighting, and makeup shape the perception of the body, and the looks presented are visual studies of specific forms of control or alienation of the body.
